Sow directly in the garden as early as the soil can be worked. Plant seeds every 3 inches, covering firmly with soil. Thin plants to 9 inches apart when they have 2 or 3 leaves. As plants begin to mature, pick outer leaves for regular use until the entire plant is harvested.
